Characteristics of Self-aligning Roller Bearing

The self-aligning roller bearing is a kind of bearing with drum-shaped rollers assembled between the inner ring of two raceways and the outer ring of the raceway with spherical surface. The self-aligning roller bearing has two rows of rollers, which mainly bear radial load, but also can bear appropriate axial load in any direction. It has high radial load capacity, especially suitable for radial heavy load. Or work under vibration load, but can not bear pure axial load.

The main characteristics of self-aligning roller bearings are as follows:

(1) Similar to self-aligning ball bearings, the outer raceway of self-aligning roller bearings is a part of the spherical surface, and its curvature center is on the axis of the bearing. The outer raceway of such bearings is spherical, so its self-aligning performance is good and it can compensate for coaxiality error, so it can realize automatic self-aligning.

(2) In the section perpendicular to the rolling direction, the roller busbar is a curve, which is in good agreement with the inner and outer raceways. The roller is in line contact with the raceway. It can withstand radial and axial loads and has good impact resistance.

(3) The aligning roller bearings have a high coincidence with the raceway and are all curved buses, so the relative sliding is serious and the friction is larger than that of cylindrical roller bearings, so the allowable working speed of aligning roller bearings is lower.

(4) Ordinary wilting roller bearings with asymmetric rollers will produce an axial force when they are running. Rollers will be contacted with the central fixed retaining edge by this force. The symmetrical roller's self-aligning roller bearings adopt movable intermediate retaining rings which can move along the axis, so that the rollers are no longer constrained by the central retaining edge. Moreover, the back groove of the inner raceway is omitted, and longer rollers can be used to improve the bearing capacity.

(5) The contact angle of single row self-aligning roller bearing is 0. The contact angle does not change obviously under the axial load, and very small axial load will produce a great contact force between the roller and the raceway. Therefore, when the axial load is relatively larger than the radial load, the single row self-aligning roller bearings can not bear the combined radial and axial load.

(6) Similar to self-aligning ball bearings, double-row self-aligning roller bearings with tightening sleeves can be installed at any position of the optical axis without machining the positioning shoulder.
