Lubrication of Bearings

First of all, let's understand why bearings should be lubricated. The function of lubrication is as follows:

1. Lubricate all parts of the bearing to reduce the rotary friction between the groove surface and the steel ball, the sliding friction between the steel ball and the holder, and the sliding friction between the holder and the guide surface of the groove.

2. Take away heat from internal friction and other heat from outside of bearing to prevent heat of bearing and deterioration of lubricant.

3. Make the rolling contact surface of the bearing often form appropriate oil film, alleviate the concentrated stress of impact load and prolong the fatigue life of the bearing.

4. Prevent the corrosion of steel balls, ditches and retainers and the invasion of garbage, foreign bodies and water.

The general lubrication methods are mainly divided into grease lubrication and oil lubrication. Generally, open-type bearings are lubricated with oil, and closed-type bearings are lubricated with grease. The filling amount of grease is usually 25% to 35% of the internal space of bearings. First of all, we mainly know about grease. Compared with lubricating oil, grease lubrication has the following six advantages:

1. Strong bearing capacity, and can be applied to harsh conditions.

2. Wider range of temperature

3. Good adhesion and simplified lubrication system design

4. Long lubrication cycle, reduce lubricant consumption

5. Good sealing and protection performance

6. Antirust and corrosion inhibition

But there are also shortcomings, such as large starting moment, poor fluidity, poor heat dissipation, inconvenient fat supply and fat exchange, and not suitable for high speed.

Secondly, oil lubrication is suitable for high-speed bearings and can withstand a certain degree of high temperature. It is also effective in reducing vibration and noise. It is mostly used in situations where grease lubrication is not applicable. Oil lubrication can be divided into: (1) oil bath lubrication; (2) drop oil lubrication; (3) splash lubrication; (4) cyclic lubrication; (5) jet lubrication; (6) oil mist lubrication; (7) oil-air lubrication.
